About the Estate

Warm hospitality. Enduring tradition.

At Lužnica, the historic castle, natural surroundings and daily life of the Sisters of Charity come together as one welcoming estate, open to a wide range of visitors and gatherings.

The Story of Lužnica

A home that became a meeting place.

The Baroque Lužnica Castle stands beside the road from Zaprešić to Brdovec. Its English-style landscape park and lake preserve a distinctive setting and traces of its aristocratic past.

The last private owners of the castle were members of the Rauch family. In 1925, the Sisters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul purchased the estate from Ana Rauch as a place of rest and recovery for elderly and unwell Sisters.

The estate helped support the community and provide food for patients and girls living in student residences. Over time, it also opened its doors to educational and charitable activities.

From Garden to Table

Homegrown tastes different.

The Sisters of Charity grow, harvest and prepare many of the ingredients on the estate themselves. The care they give the garden reflects the same care with which we welcome our guests.

Vegetables from our own garden reach the kitchen without unnecessary transport or industrial processing. We combine fresh ingredients with homemade recipes and Lužnica’s culinary traditions.

01 · Seasonal Vegetables

From the Garden and Polytunnels

The Sisters carefully tend the estate’s vegetable garden. Its harvest provides a large share of the vegetables served with our meals.

02 · Handmade

Lužnica Pasta

Our homemade pasta is made with fresh eggs from our own free-range poultry.

03 · A Fragrant Keepsake

Lužnica Herbal Tea

The Sisters grow, harvest and dry the herbs themselves. Our tea is served with meals and during breaks, and packaged tea is available to take home as an authentic souvenir.

Caring for Tomorrow

A sustainable estate. A living heritage.

We combine the preservation of our cultural and natural heritage with renewable energy, responsible water use and homegrown produce.

Modern solutions help us preserve the qualities that draw visitors to Lužnica.

Homegrown produce, renewable energy and responsible water use are part of everyday life on the estate.

Our story includes gardens, homemade pasta, medicinal herbs and Lužnica herbal tea. Tradition lives on through our care for ingredients, the environment and our guests.

Energy

Renewable Sources

Our own solar power system and high-efficiency heat pumps use energy from the sun and the environment to heat, cool and support the daily operation of our buildings.

Water

Our Own Water Sources

We use water from our own wells to maintain the parkland, water the garden and greenhouses, and meet the estate’s operational needs.

Landscape

Preserving Our Heritage

By caring for centuries-old greenery, water features and landscape elements, we preserve a setting in which nature and history remain closely connected.
